The Resolution determines which mode will be used for game play. A lower resolution means reduced quality, but is also faster.
The View Size is the size of the viewable scene. Decreasing the view size may render scenes more smoothly.
The Brightness controls the ambient light of the scene. This can compensate for dark or light monitors.
This slider allows you to select the age of Mendel when he appears in a new game. This will not affect the current game.
This shows Mendel's starting age.
Set the loudness of ambient sounds and sound effects using the Volume combobox.
The Fidelity combobox determines the clarity of the sounds. Higher fidelity requires more memory.

Galapagos is a new game title created by Anark that uses an advanced form of artificial life technology known as Non-stationary Entropic Reduction Mapping. This is the first game with a character that literally has a mind of its own. Mendel is an artificial organism with the ability to learn, adapt, and interact with his environment and the user.\n\nYou must help Mendel escape from the beautiful, but hazardous 3-D texture-mapped worlds found in Galapagos. There are many dangerous and challenging obstacles that will bar Mendel's way and often threaten his survival. You have to work together to solve the puzzles found in each world to successfully escape from Galapagos.
Anark is a research and development company creating revolutionary and diverse products utilizing advanced, proprietary artificial life technology. Galapagos is Anark's first commercial product to use NERM controller technology. 30002 Mendel is a synthetic organism with the ability to detect infrared radiation and sound. If you have a microphone hooked up to your computer, Mendel can even hear you. As a newborn he is barely able to walk, unable to avoid danger, and lacks all of the skills necessary for his survival. He is capable of learning on his own, but he needs your help to make his way through the dangerous devices, puzzles, and predators that threaten his escape.\n\nMendel's liberation from Galapagos must be accomplished without direct control over his behavior. You cannot steer him, or control him directly, but instead you must guide him by manipulating his environment.
Galapagos uses an advanced form of technology known as Non-stationary Entropic Reduction Mapping (NERM) developed exclusively by Anark. This technology serves as the 'brain' of Mendel. It allows Mendel to learn, adapt, and react much like a living organism.\n\nNERM is a special form of controller technology. A controller is a device that accepts inputs and produces outputs. The NERM controllers contained inside Mendel accept inputs from his sensors and produce outputs that are translated into behavior or action. For example, when Mendel is walking along and sees an obstacle in his path, he may turn to avoid hitting it.
